WASHINGTON, DC- (January 30, 2017) The National Black Growers Council (NBGC) has issued a statement in regard to President Donald J. Trump’s selection of Former Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue to lead the United States Department of Agriculture. The National Board of Directors for the NBGC released the following statement, “The National Black Growers Council is comprised of multi-generational Black row-crop farmers who focus on maintianing diversity in agriculture. As such, we want to cooperate with the incoming administration to ensure the accomplishment of mutually beneficial outcomes. We look forward to continuing strides on policies that will keep American agriculture diverse, competitive, and strong in an increasingly global market in the coming years. As someone who has served as a Governor of a state that depends on agriculture and has been involved in various facets of agriculture for decades, we are confident that Mr. Perdue will bring a steady hand to agriculture policy and trade. Therefore, we support the confirmation of Former Governor Sonny Perdue for the cabinet position of U.S. Secretary of Agriculture.”
